We are currently seeking an Intermediate Cathodic Protection Technician located in the Lower Mainland, BC area to join and contribute to our Cathodic Protection team. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Manager, Cathodic Protection Services. This position will be responsible for performing the duties associated with testing, evaluation and installation of cathodic protection (CP) systems and involves specialized, high technology surveys to assess pipelines: G.P.S., depth of cover, coating condition and integrity.

This is a field position and an ideal candidate will have good driving record and sound CP field experience and knowledge. We are seeking an individual with a positive attitude, an eagerness to learn and a high attention to detail, as well as someone who is highly customer service oriented and holds safety as a high priority.

  • Gather structure-to-soil potential data, soil measurements and rectifier data
  • Perform continuity tests and soil resistivity measurements
  • Install, test, adjust and/or repair rectifiers, anodes, and CP test points/stations
  • Locate pipelines and document positional pipeline information utilizing electro-magnetic and GPS equipment
  • Perform over-the-line depth of cover, close interval CP and coating surveys
  • Identify and remediate AC and/or DC interference and foreign influence issues
  • Generate field sketches or update existing drawings with rectifiers, anodes, test stations, and other design features to be included for final drafting
  • Document physical features of installation site for subsequent detailed as-built drawings
  • Organize and optimize survey information collected in order to prepare reporting charts and tables
  • Prepare field survey remedial recommendations and final job reports
  • Understand and execute various data acquisition and assessment procedures that are specific to pipeline integrity programs
  • Conform to corporate, client, and government operating and safety procedures
  • Develop trusted business relationships with existing and prospective clients
  • Assist with training, mentorship and on site management of Junior Staff
The Successful Candidate Will Possess
  • Be available to travel for multiple days to remote locations (>70%)
  • The ability and desire to learn new tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office
  • Effective problem solving skills
  • A mature and professional attitude towards work
  • A high attention to detail
  • A strong team attitude with commitment to customer service
  • The ability to manage time to maintain scheduling in order to meet appropriate deadlines
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Mechanically inclined with ability to adapt to changing work environments
Required Education and Experience
  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • NACE CP 1 minimum
  • High school diploma
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record
  • Remote location experience including ATV/Sled utilization
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Pipeline/oil field experience is not essential but considered an asset
  • NACE CP 2, or ability to get certified, an asset
  • Technical degree or diploma preferred but not an asset
