We are currently seeking an HSE professional to join and contribute to our team. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the HR Manager. The Safety & Training Coordinator will be expected to provide leadership, coordination and support of overall safety program. This role is responsible for implementing and managing Skystone’s Safety Program, providing a high level of safety support for our field programs and personnel, ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, championing our COR audit and certification, and carrying out the day to day operations of HSE tasks.

 

Key initiatives for this role will be: update Skystone’s safety program to better support construction projects, support project/client specific safety program, support and improve safety culture and communication, take a “hands-on” approach to our safety program with regular visits to field/site locations and assist with the development of a competency and training program.

 

We are looking for someone with a strong background in oil & gas construction as well as field experience, and is self-driven, ambitious, highly organized, and has a passion for Safety. This role can be based out of Skystone’s Calgary OR Edmonton office and the incumbent will be expected to travel to field/site locations and or other office locations (approximately 20%-25%).


HSE Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of Skystone’s overall health and safety program and drive continuous improvement
  • Work closely with management and leadership to drive and strengthen safety culture, as well as resolve safety issues and make improvements to the safety program
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the Safety Manual and all supporting documents (i.e. policies, procedures, forms etc.)
  • Responsible for regularly auditing internal safety program
  • Stay up-to-date with all applicable legislation and standards, to ensure compliance
  • Maintain Safety Program in compliance with COR; Responsible for COR audit and certification process
  • Perform worksite inspections
  • Work with supervisors to ensure that all incidents are reported, investigated and resolved and corrective actions are followed up on; Complete incident and accident investigations as needed
  • Maintain all safety records
  • Responsible for Safety communication; Schedule and document safety meetings
  • Champion continuous improvement of safety culture
  • Provide various reports, statistics and KPI’s to management
  • Develop a Site Safety Plans/procedures/policies as required for the project
  • Maintain a highly visible presence in the field; Assist in implementation of the HSE programs in the field
  • Maintain customer specific safety program and respond to customer requests/requirements
  • Maintain and update safety boards, and contractor/supplier management databases (eg. ISNetworld)
  • Maintain all required sub-contractor documentation
Driver & Fleet/Vehicle Responsibilities
  • Manage Skystone fleet trucks
  • Manage and monitor GeoTrack system
  • Working with managers and leadership team to improve driving habits and enforce safe driving practices
  • Work closely with CFO to manage any vehicle incidents and/or insurance claims; Track driving incidents/accidents
  • Maintain Vehicle/Fleet listing, monthly reports and driver documentation
Training, Certifications & Onboarding
  • Support new hire onboarding and provide orientation training for new employees
  • Arrange safety training (internal and external), driver training and drug, alcohol and medical tests
  • Maintain all education and certification documents; Track training and certification expiry dates and ensure required training is renewed in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with HR to develop and implement a corporate competency program
The Successful Candidate Will Possess
  • Have a strong understanding of Safety Program Requirements within Oil & Gas industry
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Have proven ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Be self-driven and proven ability to take initiative and drive continuous improvement
  • Be highly professional and proven ability to maintain confidential information
  • Have the ability to travel up to 25%
Required Education and Experience
  • 5+ Years’ Experience
  • Safety related training/education
  • Standard Safety Tickets (i.e. First Aid, WHIMIS, H2S Alive, PST/CSTS etc.)
  • Incident and Accident Investigation training
  • Safety Program Development Certification
  • Experience with COR safety audit and certification
  • Experience with Safety Program Development
  • Experience with Safety Management Databases (e.g. ISNetworld, ComplyWorks)
  • On-site/Field experience
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Harassment Investigation training would be an asset
  • Experience within a construction environment is highly preferred
  • Experience with safety training and onboarding
