Under the supervision of senior personnel, the successful candidate will be involved with coordinating and performing the duties associated with testing, evaluation and installation of cathodic protection (CP) systems in order to prevent the effects of soil-side corrosion on various structures. Additionally the position involves specialized, high technology surveys to assess pipeline: G.P.S., depth of cover, coating condition and integrity. Originating from customer needs, requirements and specifications; the chosen individual will work with specific objectives and instruction as directed from senior personnel.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Understand and execute various data acquisition and assessment procedures that are specific to pipeline integrity programs.
  • Conform to corporate and governmental operating/safety procedures.
  • Gather structure-to-soil potential data, soil measurements and rectifier data.
  • Perform continuity tests and soil resistivity measurements.
  • Install, test, adjust and/or repair rectifiers, anodes, and CP test points / stations.
  • Locate pipelines and document positional pipeline information utilizing electro-magnetic and GPS equipment.
  • Perform over-the-line depth of cover, close interval CP and coating surveys.
  • Identify and remediate AC and / or DC interference and foreign influence issues.
  • Generate field sketches or update existing drawings with rectifiers, anodes, test stations, and other design features to be included for final drafting.
  • Document physical features of installation site for subsequent detailed as-built drawings.
  • Organize and optimize survey information collected in order to prepare reporting charts and tables.
  • Assist senior personnel in the preparation of survey reports and final job reports.

Industry Experience:

  • Two years cathodic protection experience is preferred.
  • CP Level 1 - Cathodic Protection Tester is desirable.
  • Proficiency in electronic mapping systems.
  • Reading and interpreting maps, drawings, procedures, survey results, plots, reports and applicable operation and repair manuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills along with a strong team attitude with commitment to customer service.
  • Strong attention to detail, conscientious and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage time to maintain scheduling and meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Pipeline / oil field experience not essential but considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s licence and travel for long periods of time away from home may be required.
  • Able to work in various temperature and climate conditions.

Education Requirements:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with a technical diploma from:
    • Electrical Engineering Technology, or
    • Electronics Engineering Technology, or
    • Material Engineering Technology.
  • Consideration will also be given to applicants with a technical diploma from:
    • Chemical Engineering Technology, or
    • Geomatics Engineering Technology, or
    • Petroleum Engineering Technology.

Software Skills:

  • Competent PC skills with proficiency in Microsoft products and computerized data management systems.
  • Knowledge of database programs.

Location:

  • This position can be based out of Skystone's Calgary or Red Deer office.
